The week before Christmas 2025, the college hosted a holiday celebration that included more than the lighting of a Christmas tree, hot chocolate, and music. It also offered a moment to pause and reflect on Old Main in transition. Two alumni who attended the event talked to me for a story about the memorable evening.

Legacy United Methodist Church Facebook Pages

As one of the largest churches in the Dakotas Conference of the United Methodist Church, I’m Legacy’s lead community manager responsible for posting regular content on the church’s three Facebook pages (a main page and two others for the Legacy Kids and Legacy Students ministries). It’s used as a central hub for attendees of the church and those in the greater area, highlighting the church’s mission to be a “Community of Impact.”

In addition to its Facebook pages, Legacy United Methodist Church maintains an active presence on Instagram. As the community manager, I post a variety of content that connects with adults, students, kids, partners, and others to share the church’s latest photos, news, inspiration, and resources – while demonstrating Legacy’s mission to be a “Community of Impact.”

Media Relations
As part of a campaign to increase Legacy UMC’s visibility in the local community, I connected Lead Pastor Cory Thrall with Thea Jorgensen and Sargianna Wutzke, who hosted a local podcast called These Are Your Neighbors. Jorgensen and Wutzke were members of the City of Bismarck’s Human Relations Committee. Their podcast strengthened inclusivity amongst the Bismarck community by encouraging others to get to know their neighbor. Thrall was featured on Episode 58 released on June 17, 2025.

Legacy United Methodist Church Ukrainian News Story
Media Relations
As part of a campaign to increase Legacy UMC’s visibility in the local community, I contacted reporter Michael Standaert of the North Dakota News Cooperative. After speaking to Lead Pastor Cory Thrall, Standaert wrote a story that mentioned the church’s work with Ukrainian immigrants in the community. I then sent Standaert’s story to the Bismarck Tribune, where it was published on the front page of the Monday, April 7, 2025 issue.

Associations North Weekly AI Email Newsletter

When Associations North discontinued its quarterly print magazine Focus North, it transitioned to a weekly email newsletter. Using artificial intelligence, the newsletter system delivered articles based on reader preference. As editor, I was responsible for ensuring the system pulled content from reputable sources and manually entering other relevant articles such as event and member updates.

Community Manager
As a community of Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota association professionals, LinkedIn was the primary social channel for Associations North. I worked with a team to create content that showcased the association’s initiatives and increased engagement with members and other stakeholders. This led to a steady increase of several hundred followers.

While Association North’s primary social audience was on LinkedIn, it also maintained a Facebook page to connect with other community members who had a greater presence there, such as Mission Partners and allied organizations. I was part of a team that created engaging content and built a dedicated following in this space.

In addition to its LinkedIn and Facebook pages, Associations North had a smaller but active presence on Instagram. As a community manager, I worked with a team to update this space with engaging content devoted mostly to pictures of association members and events.

Focus North
Cover Story Writer & Managing Editor
Focus North was the official member publication of Associations North. Since May 2017, I researched, conducted interviews, and wrote each quarterly cover story. In spring 2023, I assumed additional responsibilities as editor, managing other content and communicating with contributing writers. The final issue was published in April 2025 before the publication was discontinued.

In recognition of Food Allergy Awareness Week in May 2023, I wrote a special feature article for Focus North’s diversity/equity/inclusion/accessibility column. It offered tips for being more inclusive of people with food allergies.

MOMS Club® of Bismarck Website

This small nonprofit connected at-home and part-time working moms with each other to build relationships. I updated their public-facing website with a new design, enhanced security settings, additional content, and a contact form. Regular posts encouraged engagement with members, partners, and the greater community.

In addition to a private Facebook group that it used to communicate with members, MOMS Club® of Bismarck also had a public page to connect with a larger audience. As the page’s community manager, I posted on behalf of the club, shared partner content, and responded to comments. With regular engagement, the page surpassed 2,000 followers.

MOMS Club® of Bismarck Mother’s Day Family 5K

MOMS Club® of Bismarck teamed up with Laughing Sun Brewing Co. and the Abused Adult Resource Center to shower love on local moms for Mother’s Day 2024. I helped MOMS Club® coordinate with the other two organizations to plan, promote, and execute a Family 5K and Diaper Drive to raise money and diapers for moms in need.

When Legacy United Methodist Church‘s social media manager was away on maternity leave, I filled in as a substitute. One of my responsibilities was updating and managing content and notifications for the church’s mobile app, which was used to connect with over 1,000 people who were connected to the church.

Super Bowl 2024 Uber Ad Response
Food Allergy Advocate
Logging onto my computer days before Super Bowl 2024, I was dismayed to watch a preview of an Uber Eat’s ad that included a harmful depiction of someone suffering from life-threatening food allergies. I published this LinkedIn post in response, which was featured by the LinkedIn News team to accompany its own article on the subject. My post has since garnered over 16,500 impressions. Thanks to the collective efforts of the food allergy community, Uber removed that part of their ad before airing during the big game – a huge win!

When Homestead Media wanted to create a blog post featuring its relationship with a client, I conducted the interview, coordinated edits and reviews with each party, and submitted the story for Homestead Media to promote on its website. The process also involved pulling testimonials out of the transcribed interview and weaving them into social media posts.
